You have heard of White hot and Red hot lava. But what about Electric "Blue hot" lava?

Volcanoes in Indonesia erupt with electric blue hot lava at night. The mountain contains a large amount of pure sulphur, which emits violet color as it burns. Also, when the liquid sulphur continues to burn as it flows down the slopes, it gives an illusion of lava flowing.

For several years Paris based photographer Oliver Grunewald has been documenting the fascinating volcano (Kawah Ijen Volcano). He said that blue flame is created when sulfuric gases from deep inside ground crack come in contact with atmospheric oxygen.

During photography of Kawah Ijen Volcano, Grunewald wears a special gas mask as protection against harmful gases. "It is impossible to stay close to acid gas without a mask," he said.
